Is the Immigration Reform Bill Just Playing Dead?

Amid political warnings the bill could fail,
Reid scheduled a vote on limiting debate
on the measure for Thursday evening,
in a bid to drive the contentious reform
through the Democratic-led Senate.

It is the lack of shots that were heard around the world today as the US Senate failed to shove an incredibly unpopular immigration bill down the American throat.

The bill began with the pretense that the biggest problems involving immigration were legislative and could be solved by simply passing a new law. The law they insisted was coming, amounted to what more than two-thirds of Americans considered immunity for 12-20 million illegal immigrants. The warcry was, "Bring them out of the shadows." But it occurred to most Americans that these workers are nowhere near the shadows as they have been demanding to be treated as US citizens when they are not even here legally.

The Senate pretended they were doing everyone a favor by committing us to trillions more in debt. The House pretended they had nothing to do with it, but those who failed to speak out against the bill are ON THE RECORD having remained silent and they will be held accountable in 2008.

The Senate originally tried to press this through quickly without even discussion, as if the people would not notice and would hail it as "progress". Many publications shed their objectivity and lied to the American public telling us it was a "popular" bill when a full two thirds of Americans ultimately opposed the core points.

One may ask, "who do I vote against in 2008?" Well, a place to start is to become aware of who voted on what. This is difficult as the Senate intentionally tried to keep most of it off the record by making several voice votes which results in our having no complete record of their intentions. The best measure will ultimately be, who spoke agaisnt it from the beginning.

Meanwhile, here is the list of votes leading to the final death of the bill, lest it raises its ugly head again. Maybe now we can get on with enforcing the laws we have and listening to the American people on BOTH sides of the political spectrum.

Plight of the Intruder: Social Disconnect of Minorities and Whites in LA

White Latinos are quite common, as the “Castillano” bloodline is alive and well in Mexico and other Latin American nations. It is important to understand the foundation of white racism that grows from Mexico City to feed the same forms in LA. It is important to note that most upper class Mexicans consider themselves to be “Spanish” before Mexican, separating themselves from the masses.

Black Latinos are common as well; "Mulattos" are rather low on the social scale though, in fact below the "Mestizo" or indigenous populations of Latin America.

The oligarchy of Mexico is extreme and has left its people with great temptation to leave. One can hardly blame the immigrants themselves, whether legal or not. “Coyotes” , those who assist illegal immigrants in their border crossing, are mercenaries who will take poor people’s money, and stuff them into various spaces as cargo to be smuggled, many of whom die in passage, much like black slaves in ships in early US History.

As for conspiracies, that implies a plan. It would require affirmative activity. In this case, there is a deadly apathy on the part of the larger part of whites in LA as to the plight of Black and Brown. We typically find a highly insulated white community tucked away behind gates, driving past the neighborhoods on superhighways which allow them to simply ignore poor people.

There is no political will among whites to solve the problems as those who can afford it, put their kids in private schools or rich sub-municipalities like Beverly Hills, further insulating them from concern, i.e. "Valley Girls" and the like.

The only exposure they have to the inner cities is through the movies, just like the rest of America, which is replete with racial stereotypes at best and ignorance at least.

Many books have been written on these subjects and an article hardly does justice, but to stimulate further research.

It should be noted that this form of racism in the form of apathy, is pervasive in LA, San Francisco, Houston and Atlanta; basically anywhere one finds high black and Latino populations. Sadly, what happens in LA is an indicator of what will and has already happened in the other cities. As LA has, for many years now, seen movements to secede from the city, so have cities like Atlanta experienced powerful, well funded movements to leave the inner cities without funding from their suburban counterparts.

In LA, the San Fernando Valley has attempted such secession and in Atlanta, the wealthy northern suburbs of N. Fulton Co. have recently attempted to leave, to form their own county. It is yet to be seen if the state of Georgia, long led by rural racists, will allow this abandonment. In LA, it seems to be under control at the moment, but LA has already suffered disenfranchisement in the form of enclaves like the cities of Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Malibu.

Meanwhile, the violent intrusion of Latino gangs into traditionally black neighborhoods in South Central LA, Compton and surrounding areas, has led to horrific and much ignored suffering and death.

One is left with the question, if blacks have to flee Compton for fear of their lives, where can they live?

WASHINGTON (AP) -A bipartisan group of senators reached agreement with the White House Thursday on an immigration overhaul to grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. and fortify the border against new ones.

One of the key negotiators, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., said he expects President Bush to endorse it.

The deal came after weeks of painstaking closed-door negotiations that brought the most liberal Democrats and the most conservative Republicans together with Bush's Cabinet officers to produce a highly complex measure that carries heavy political consequences.

It set the stage for what promises to be a bruising battle next week in the Senate on one of Bush's top non-war priorities.

The bill grants effective amnesty to millions if they simply post a $5000 fine, less than the cost of government benefits one illegal uses in one year. If they continue to work for ten years, they will get full Social Security qualification, even if they are currently 55 and they retire at 65 and return to their countries. It is a travesty!

These people who have crossed our borders without legal permission, do not consider themselves criminals, but the law is clear and it is a good law passed by previous congresses who were following the will of the people of the US, NOT the will of the people outside the US who think America is theirs.

Both parties, rotten with corporatists, support the new legislation, against our will ,because they see them as a new source of cheap labor for their masters. This is no mystery but it is treachery.

We hear many religious leaders speak up for them because they have no respect for the basic protection of national sovereignty. The Mormons invite them into Nevada because they see them as a new source of potential members/customers. Let's not forget, religious leaders are out out of touch with their followers because they are as rotten as politicians in that they only care about building their kingdoms on Earth.

We remind all, this is the issue that crosses party lines. A huge majority of citizen members of every American political party, religion and agree on this:

We are being ignored and there is a conspiracy to force us to become a feudal nation of low income and standard of living.

We can't blame the poor foot-soldiers themselves as they only want what their own country has refused to give them, but that is not our fault. It is time to send them back and pressure Mexico and other feudal nations to our south to force their rich to pay taxes and provide services.

Meanwhile, we need to harshly deal with the employers who are acting out of greed and hiring people they know are NOT here legally. America needs to pull together to realize that part of the reason our armed forces have been sent to Iraq has been to disarm America against more direct enemies, here, the employers, the workers and the accomplices.

It is time that American citizens rise up and exercise the right of citizen arrest. Armed if necessary, if we see people either seeking work or working in America without having crossed our borders legally, having obtained appropriate authorization, then it is our right and obligation to arrest them, transport them to law enforcement agents and insist they do their jobs.

Recently, border guards have been targeted for doing their jobs such that two are sitting in jail while the one they pursued has sued them and been allowed to run free to bring in thousands of pounds of illegal drugs.

The remaining border guards are now terrified to do their jobs. No one is even applying for their jobs to replace them and America is not protected from the onslaught of illegal occupiers.

I don't care if they are from Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua, Haiti, anywhere. It is not America's jobs to provide them with a haven from their own country. They are not political prisoners. They are simply coming here to make money so they can send it back to their own countries, depriving Americans of making and keeping fair pay for their work.

If that means breaking up parents from their "anchor babies" then so be it. If I rob a bank, you can be sure they will put me in jail, even if it means my wife and children will never see me again. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. This does not make one a bigot to insist that we are a nation of laws. And it is not good enough to simply change the laws by making these workers "legal" . By granting immunity, in any form, for the illegal employers or employees is NOT an acceptable reaction.

It does not make me a bigot to require that others don't steal from me; that is exactly what they are doing. If they came to me and tried to steal my car, I could defend myself with necessary force. If they come here and steal an entire job and the social services for which we pay taxes and have throughout our lives, we have the right to remove them with force. We pay agents to exercise that force on our behalf and they are not; so what are we left to do?

It is time to flood the phones of our congressional representatives. That's right; get up and call 911 and get the number for your local representative's office and make it clear you are not going to accept his/her abrogation of oath of office. Or go here.

Incomes have fallen to the point that the working class is strangled with bills. Meanwhile, banks have been lending illegal immigrants the money to start businesses, buy houses and then, if necessary, simply leave, if they can't pay the bills. The banks then take the house and all the payments they have received so far, and they start all over. We grant those banks the right to do business, and they ignore the law, leaving us on the hook when they lose money. It is our right to force banks to participate in keeping illegals out of our pockets, as it is our tax dollars that are used to insure and protect those banks.

Now is the time to bring our soldiers home for the war of their lives, the removal of illegal foreign occupiers.

Anyone who tells you 2-million LEGAL immigrants is not enough is simply out of their minds or they are quietly profiting in same way from this illegal labor. It is time to arrest the priests and employers who offer sanctuary to criminals. It is time to demand our law enforcement agents, work overtime to remove people who are not properly documented; those who have not waited in line. The majority of us are really angry and we are not going to take it anymore.

The secret dealmakers, and scurrying politicians should be arrested for treason. The governments who are our neighbors, who encourage this activity are our enemies and should be treated as such.

They know it is a war and they have no pretense that they are Americans, only interlopers who want to send money to their countries of loyalty. It is time we realize that there is no greater war than one that takes place on our soil. We will not be blackmailed into negotiating with criminals. They must leave and then ask us nicely and legally if they can come back. Then we must selectively grant work visas on the basis of the proven need for their services.

Act now before it is too late. I can assure you, it is not too late yet!

Implications of Higher 'Starting' Age Entering the Workforce

I will begin on a more anecdotal note, despite the very statistical nature of this article.

When I was a kid, my mother let me borrow the lawnmower only after I had finished our own lawn, to go around the neighborhood and provide the same service to others who weren't blessed with kids to do yardwork. I got $5 or $6 a yard and I was rolling in the bucks; enough to buy any toy I wanted, large or small.

When I turned 14, I was able to get a work permit. I no longer had to sell Christmas cards from door to door or do odd yard work to make a wage. Was I slave labor? No! Was I child labor? Yes. Was it immoral? Absolutely not! I learned the work ethic that made America great, and I learned it early, while my learning curve was short, fast and deep. The first job I had I was as a busboy and dishwasher. It was summer. It was hot. And I had a ball.

I had no idea I 'was being abused', because I wasn't!

At 47, some think I am old. Well, I am old enough to begin to say things like, 'those were the good ole days'.

I see a generation of lost souls with nothing to do. My son wants to be responsible when mom calls him out on his lazy behavior, but what is he going to do? Take a job from an illegal immigrant. Impossible -- he hasn't taken a foreign language yet. And it it is he who would be fired on the basis of HIS national origin. My, how things have changed.

Politics is becoming more complicated because, on this issue, we find both the extremes of both parties attacking our right to work as American citizens and legal immigrants by allowing us to be either pushed out of or prevented from entering the workforce.

I refuse to believe all of it is a sense of "spoiling our children" because frankly most Americans could use the additional income provided by their working kids. Mom could use a break as a working kid is out of her hair while she is at home or at her job. My mom was confident that her son wasn't committing crimes or doing drugs, as I was under supervision by mentors who cared about my personal development of a work ethic. It helped their businesses and it helped me.

I refuse, by the way, to blame this on the rising minimum wage, because even then, I was making the equivalent of $15/hr when adjusted for inflation. By the time I was 16 and had a driver's license, I was a stocker at a grocery store, in a union of all things, making $6/hr in 1976. That is like $20/hr now. But those rates don't exist now, as the rich in America have priced labor out of reality, on the low side for us and on the high side for them.

When I was 18, I worked in construction, $10/hr (1978). That rate stayed at a living wage through 1990, then it began to fall as subsequent administrations began to ignore the citizens for whom they work.

Many will blame it on free trade agreements. Others, who have actually read those agreements, realize it is about failure to enforce the labor relations clauses of those agreements, allowing multinational corporations to make profits without consideration of fair competition and humane treatment in their foreign factories.

It was during the late days of the Clinton administration that the rich discovered they could slowly either move jobs elsewhere, or they could hire illegal immigrants who cannot complain about their pay and treatment. Pay has become unlivable unless you have 10+ PEOPLE IN A SMALL HOUSE IN A BAD SECTION OF TOWN.

Our children have been taught to hate 'those people' and they do. They don't realize, it was the rich that made this happen, and it is they our children should be looking at... with contempt.

They have bought and paid for our officials whose jobs it is to curb their ferocious appetites for profit.

Though we have laws against the corporate abuse of our airwaves, no one enforces them. The entire AM dial is rotten with propaganda feeding the masters. This is not 'free market'; it is called antitrust and no one -- who is paid to care, does.

The data below makes it clear where America is headed; toward American adults/parents working for less than what their kids used to get paid due to a failure of the government to protect the very sovereignty that makes us a nation.

In the long term, we will see that it has and will continue to destroy the thing that made good kids into good citizens. Young people will grow up knowing they have been disenfranchised. Minorities, who ARE Americans will be pitted against those who take their jobs and fail to notice who allowed it.

America has entered an age when push must become shove, but who do we shove? The government has put border agents in jail when they simply do their jobs. The result is, no one is standing in line to become a border agent, so no one will guard the border and those who do will simply step aside and welcome those crossing (if they want to keep their jobs). Is this a slippery slope fallacy, much ado about nothing or a truly slippery slope where not only will we fall and slide down a deadly hill, but snow will avalanche behind us and bury us. Too dramatic?

Well, death, starvation and dying is pretty dramatic.

It sounds like a lot to infer from a lifetime of experience, observation and the data below that we are in danger of, if not already, becoming a slave nation and our kids will not even know they are slaves and neither will most adults as they become angry at the wrong enemies.

Note: the population has risen by as much as 1/3 (estimation due to impossibly high illegal immigration numbers) while the total number of jobs for those 16-24 has declined dramatically.
